LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)-- Arkansas State Police and many local law enforcement agencies will be cracking down on underage drinking and driving.
State police will set up additional sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols starting Friday and continuing for the next ten days.
Teenagers caught driving with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .002 to .007 can be arrested for driving under the influence. If their blood concentration is .008 or over they will be arrested and charged with DWI.
"DUI is a problem and one third of all accidents that are fatal involving a teenager involve alcohol," Trooper Mark Johnson says.

That's why state police are going to be putting up more sobriety check points and saturation patrols starting Friday night and extending for the next 10 days. The main focuses for the stops are on drunk drivers under 21.

"An under 21 DUI, which is drinking under the influence, is any where from .02 to .07," Johnson explained.

Arkansas state law states teenagers caught driving with as little as .02 blood concentration can be arrested for driving under the influence and up to a $2,000 fine and any higher, Johnson says, "Will be treated as an adult and charged the same as an adult."
