Legendary musician Nina Simone's daughter Simone did an interview with Ebony magazine to talk about the upcoming film about the last 8 years of her mothers life and to say the least she isn't happy about it. First of all she claims that the movie producer didn't reach out to her to assist with details of events that happened in her mom's life, and I can understand how she may feel since she is her mother's only child. Then she doesn't like the fact that they cast Zoe Sadana to play her mother and after I read about her heritage this is a black woman, no offense to Zoe but I have to agree that their are plenty of qualified black actresses to play this role. Simone expressed that she had Kimberly Elise in mind for the role when a movie was mentioned or even an unknown actress would've been okay. Nina is remembered for her contribution to American music as a jazz singer, song writer, arranger, civil rights activist and the high priestess of jazz. Mary J. Blidge was ask to play the role six years ago but the movie never did move forward. Simone is also speaking out because the movie producers want to create a love story around Nina and her male nurse Clifton Henderson who she claims was gay and wasn't attracted to women. Nina's daughter said that the relationship was never personal only professional.
I think that Simone has every right to be upset about the film, out of respect for her mother's legacy and facts about her life she should've been involved and another thing Nina has very strong facial features that represent a very strong heritage, they could've cast an actress that was more believable. And I they aren't going to just going to make up a love affair with the lady and her gay male nurse? This sounds like a mess already. I hope they get the facts straight.
