In an entry dated September 22nd, 1970, 16-year-old Winfrey wrote about her first date: "Anthony asked me yesterday to go with him and today I answered yes. I hated to go against my parents but Anthony is so perfect (almost). I couldn't just say no."
In another diary entry written three months later, she pondered her future as a college co-ed and wrote, "Deciding about college is racking my brain. I've got a psychology test tomorrow and haven't studied one bit. Why I do stuff like this is beyond me."
When she was 25 years old Winfrey co-hosted a local talk show in Baltimore. She waited for another guy she liked to call: "It is difficult sometimes to not let this all encompassing engulfing loneliness overwhelm one's being. Yet I know it is so ridiculous. I make $50,000 a year. What do I have to feel sorry about?"
