ARKANSAS STATE SPELLING BEE TO SHOWCASE BEST SPELLERS



The best spellers in the state will compete in the state competition Saturday, March 19th at the University Theater at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The Arkansas State Spelling Bee, presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, will host 66 county spelling bee winners competing for the ultimate title and an all-expense paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.

Students in third through eighth grades will compete in the state bee. The first round of competition will begin at 9 a.m. with registration at 8 a.m. The event is open to the public.

Darlene Barr, retired public school teacher, will be the spelling bee pronouncer. Debbie Crownover, records-tension specialist for the Pulaski County Special School District, will adjudicator. Dr. Jo Chesser, retired Arkansas elementary-school teacher and educational administration adjunct professor for UALR, will be the judge.
